The best dictation app is still a dictation app
Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, which is more than FlowIn does. If you want the same dictation everywhere, that is the reason to pick it.
None of it helps at a shared desk. Every platform it supports still requires you to say the words, so the constraint travels with you onto each one.
FlowIn goes the other way. The prediction appears ahead of your cursor, and you take a word of it or the whole sentence, without anyone hearing a thing.
There is also nothing to record. Every platform Wispr Flow runs on needs a microphone; FlowIn needs none. Autocomplete can run on your own Mac with nothing transmitted. Replies and rewriting are cloud calls, so that text does leave it.
Where Wispr Flow is the better choice
It goes where you go. Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android. FlowIn is an Apple Silicon Mac app today. If you write as much on a phone as on a laptop, that gap is real and this page is not going to talk you out of it.
It is hands-free. If typing is painful or slow for reasons that have nothing to do with skill, dictation is the right tool and FlowIn is not a substitute for it.

- Is FlowIn more private than Wispr Flow?
- On audio, simply yes: there is no microphone in FlowIn, so nothing you say is ever captured, and in a shared room that also means nothing anyone near you says is captured. On text, be precise. Autocomplete can run on a model on your own Mac with nothing transmitted. Reply drafting and rewriting run on a cloud model, so that text is sent, used to produce the answer, and not retained unless you opt in.
- Is FlowIn a Wispr Flow alternative?
- Only if what you want is text on the screen faster. It is not a dictation app and there is no microphone in it. FlowIn predicts what you are typing and finishes it, and drafts replies from the conversation already on your screen. If you specifically want speech-to-text, Wispr Flow does that and FlowIn does not.
- Why would I switch from Wispr Flow?
- Usually because of where you work. Dictation is quick with the door shut and impossible at a shared desk, in a cafe, on a train, or while you are on a call. People tend to look for something else once they notice how much of the week falls into that second category.
- Can I keep using both?
- Yes, and that is what we would suggest. They do not conflict. Dictate the long drafts when you have the room to yourself, and let FlowIn carry the replies and messages you write with other people around.
