A Cotypist alternative
that also writes replies.
Cotypist finishes your sentences. FlowIn finishes them too. Press one key and it will also draft a whole reply, or rewrite something you have already typed, without leaving the app you are in.
14 days unlimited, then a free plan. Apple Silicon, macOS 13.3 or later.
The short answer
Cotypist does one of these three things. FlowIn does all three.
Finish a sentence. Both do this, inline, in almost any Mac app, and both can run entirely on your own machine.
Write a reply from scratch. An email lands. Press the right Option key and FlowIn reads the thread, offers three ways to answer, and drafts the one you pick into the reply box. Cotypist does not do this.
Rewrite what you already wrote. Select a paragraph and the same key makes it shorter, clearer, more formal, or puts it in another language: the kind of tidying you would switch to Grammarly for, done in place in whatever app you are already in. Cotypist does not do this either.
If finishing sentences is all you need, Cotypist is the cheaper choice and a good one. The prices are in the table below.

Rewriting what you already wrote
Select text, press the same key, and choose how it should change: shorter, clearer, more formal, in another language. The replacement lands in the field you were writing in, so nothing is copied out to a panel and pasted back.
The same key is also what makes FlowIn a Grammarly alternative for Mac. More on the drafting side on the AI replies page, and on the prediction itself under autocomplete for Mac.
Where Cotypist is the better choice
- You want a cheaper entry tier. Cotypist Plus is $6.67 a month for one Mac and a reduced feature set, and FlowIn has no equivalent: our single paid plan is $10 a month paid annually, which lines up with their Pro at $10 for three Macs.
- You want a guarantee that nothing ever leaves the Mac. Cotypist is local-only by design. FlowIn matches that for autocomplete, but replies and rewriting are cloud calls, so text you hand to those features does leave the device.
- You want the mature autocomplete extras. Full autocorrect comes with Plus; mid-line completion, per-app instructions and clipboard awareness are Pro-tier, at the $10 that FlowIn also costs annually.
Questions
- Is FlowIn a good Cotypist alternative?
- It depends what you want. Both predict your next words inline in almost any Mac app, and both can do that on-device. FlowIn also drafts replies from a conversation and rewrites text you have already written, which Cotypist does not do, though those two run in the cloud rather than locally. Cotypist is cheaper if autocomplete is all you need.
- What does FlowIn do that Cotypist does not?
- Reply drafting and rewriting. In any inbox or chat, one key reads the thread and offers three ways to answer, then writes the full draft. The same key turns text you have written into a shorter, clearer, or translated version in place.
- Which is cheaper, FlowIn or Cotypist?
- Cotypist has a cheaper entry tier; at the comparable tier the two are level. FlowIn has a single paid plan at $14 a month, or $10 paid annually, covering three Macs. Cotypist Plus is $6.67 for one Mac with a reduced feature set, and Cotypist Pro is $10 for three Macs. FlowIn's free plan is the more generous of the two at 150 autocomplete words and 10 AI replies a day, against 100 completed words.
- Do both run on-device?
- Cotypist runs entirely on your Mac, always, for everything it does. FlowIn's autocomplete can do the same, but drafting a reply and rewriting text run on a cloud model, so that text is processed off the device. If nothing ever leaving your Mac is the requirement, Cotypist is the stricter choice.
- How many Macs does one licence cover?
- FlowIn Pro covers three Macs on a single licence. Cotypist covers up to three on Pro and one on Plus, so if you write on both a laptop and a desktop, their cheaper plan is not the one to compare against.
- Can I try both before paying?
- Yes. Cotypist gives every new install a 30-day Pro trial with no credit card. FlowIn gives 14 days unlimited, then continues on the free plan. Running both for a week is the honest way to decide.
